Ottawa County Sheriff's Office Captain Jacob Sparks reported that eight people died in a suspicious house fire in Grand Haven Township on Friday. The victims included two adults in their 40s and six children ranging in age from five to 15 years old. Deputies first responded to the area between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. after neighbors reported the smell of smoke, though no fire was immediately visible. Fire crews returned at approximately 11:45 a.m. to find white smoke billowing from a residence on Riverside Trail. Upon entering the home, officials discovered that all eight residents were deceased. While the official cause of death is still being determined, Captain Jacob Sparks noted that some victims suffered gunshot wounds. Investigators are currently considering a murder-suicide as a primary theory for the incident. Michigan State Police arson investigators are assisting with the ongoing probe, which remains a complex scene with no immediate threat to the public.
