SWISS International Air Lines Flight 16F Makes Emergency Landing at Bangor International Airport Due to Cockpit Smoke
A Swiss International Air Lines Airbus A330, flying from Zurich to New York JFK, made an emergency landing at Bangor International Airport in Maine on Monday afternoon. The aircraft, carrying 208 passengers, was diverted because the crew reported smoke of an unknown origin in the forward section of the Business Class and an active fire in the cockpit. The plane descended rapidly from an altitude of 32,000 feet to land safely at approximately 12:13 p.m. All passengers and crew members were reported safe and well. The runway at Bangor International Airport was closed for just over an hour while airport fire services conducted a thermal and visual inspection of the plane. A spokesperson for SWISS International Air Lines confirmed that the airline is currently working to arrange onward travel for all affected passengers.
