Taiwan's Defence Minister Wellington Koo oversees annual Han Kuang military drills to test readiness against a Chinese invasion.
Taiwan is launching its annual 10-day Han Kuang military exercise to test the island's readiness for a potential Chinese invasion. Defence Minister Wellington Koo stated that the drills will include new tests on how the public responds to limited internet connectivity, specifically throttling mobile data in northern and central Taiwan to simulate a cyberattack or major crisis. More than 20,000 military personnel, including 5,000 reservists, are participating in the drills. The exercise includes counter-landing operations, convoy escorts for critical supplies, and joint counter-blockade missions. The island's armed forces are also training to counter hostile drones and drawing lessons from the war in Ukraine. The drills aim to ensure Taiwan can sustain military operations under attack by testing the wartime relocation of weapons production lines to safer locations. The defence ministry announced that the scenario assumes the People's Liberation Army has completed preparations and begun crossing the Taiwan Strait.
