These allegations, which occurred between 2010 and 2017, were based on new evidence provided by Bedfordshire Police. The brothers have previously denied the allegations, with their lawyer, Joseph McBride, describing the UK's move as a "political hit" and an "abuse of authority." While the brothers are currently under investigation in Romania, the UK Crown Prosecution Service is seeking to bring them back to Britain to face the full scope of the charges. The administration announced that the arrests were made in accordance with established law enforcement treaties.
