Taylor Farms Recalls Iceberg Lettuce Across 27 States Due to Potential Cyclospora Parasite Contamination

Taylor Farms is recalling iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico after health officials identified a potential source of a widespread cyclospora parasite outbreak. The parasite has caused thousands of cases of diarrhea across the country, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting nearly 7,000 confirmed or investigated cases in 34 states since May. The recalled products were distributed between June 29 and July 16 to 27 states, including Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, and Texas. While the recall notice lacks specific retail names, major distributors like Sysco and Walmart have already removed affected products from their shelves. Taco Bell also confirmed the removal of the lettuce from its nationwide supply chain after federal investigators linked the produce to a large regional outbreak in the Midwest. Because the official recall notice provides limited details on specific brand names, food safety experts advise consumers in the affected states to discard all iceberg lettuce out of an abundance of caution. Taylor Farms is currently removing the implicated products from the market and has suspended further distribution from the affected region.
