David Ott filed a lawsuit against Taco Bell and Taylor Farms after contracting a parasitic illness from shredded iceberg lettuce.

David Ott filed a lawsuit in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court seeking over $25,000 in damages after contracting a parasitic illness from eating at a Taco Bell in Youngstown, Ohio. The complaint alleges that Ott developed severe gastrointestinal symptoms and required a two-day hospital stay after consuming Taco Supremes on June 18 and June 20. Health officials have traced the multistate Cyclospora outbreak to shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms to Taco Bell locations in several Midwest states. In response to the outbreak, Taylor Fresh Foods is voluntarily removing all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from the U.S. market. While the FDA traceback identified a single independent farm as the potential source, the company is removing all lettuce from that region as a precaution. Taco Bell stated it took immediate action to remove the potentially impacted lettuce following conversations with public health officials. To date, the CDC has confirmed more than 1,644 cases of cyclosporiasis across the country.
