Colt Gray pleads guilty to all 55 counts in the 2024 Apalachee High School shooting that killed four people

Colt Gray, the 16-year-old suspect in the 2024 Apalachee High School shooting, entered a non-negotiated guilty plea on Friday for all 55 felony counts, including murder and aggravated assault. The shooting, which occurred in Winder, Georgia, resulted in the deaths of two students and two teachers, while leaving nine others wounded. By accepting the plea without a prior deal with prosecutors, Colt Gray avoids a criminal trial, leaving the final sentence to the discretion of the judge. During the hearing, victims and their families delivered emotional impact statements. Breanna Schermerhorn, whose son Mason Schermerhorn was killed, expressed that Colt Gray made conscious decisions that forever altered the lives of others. Several family members and survivors requested that the judge impose a sentence of life in prison without parole. The court also reviewed evidence including Colt Gray's notebooks, which revealed a detailed, long-term plan for the attack. While Colt Gray's father, Colin Gray, was previously convicted for providing the rifle, the final sentencing for Colt Gray will determine if he will ever be eligible for parole.
