President Donald Trump expressed frustration with Senate Majority Leader John Thune over the stalled progress of the SAVE America Act.
The administration announced that President Donald Trump’s patience is running out regarding the SAVE America Act, a bill requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to register for federal elections. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that the administration wants to see as much of the legislation passed as possible before the August recess. Senate Majority Leader John Thune defended his leadership, arguing that the bill currently lacks the necessary votes to overcome a Democratic filibuster. While President Donald Trump urged Thune to use extreme measures to pass the act, Thune suggested the administration should focus on persuading the Democrats who are currently blocking the floor. Despite the public criticism, Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana confirmed that Thune maintains broad support within the Republican conference. While the bill remains stalled, the administration continues to prioritize it as a key legislative goal, even as critics argue it may create unnecessary hurdles for legitimate voters.
