Former Vice President Mike Pence calls for Congress to rename the Russia sanctions bill in honor of the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
Former Vice President Mike Pence is urging Congress to rename the bipartisan Russia sanctions legislation after the late Senator Lindsey Graham. Pence stated that the bill, which aims to increase economic pressure on Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine, would serve as a fitting tribute to the influential national security hawk. The senator, who died at age 71, was a consistent advocate for Israel, Ukraine, and a stronger NATO alliance. Pence noted that Graham viewed the Russian invasion as a defining geopolitical challenge and remained committed to forcing Putin to the negotiating table. During the first administration, Graham also played a key role in encouraging NATO allies to increase defense spending. While the administration announced that the FBI is investigating the senator's death, President Trump noted that the agency is likely wasting its time on circulating conspiracy theories. The chief medical examiner identified the cause of death as an aortic dissection. Following the senator's passing, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed his sister, Darline Graham, to complete the remainder of his term.
