Jorge Rodriguez, president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, confirmed that the death toll from the twin earthquakes on June 24 has reached 5,119. The 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude quakes, the largest the country has seen in over a century, also injured more than 16,740 people. Rodriguez noted that over 21,470 people remain in makeshift camps while 17,907 are currently without housing. To aid recovery, the administration announced that the government would receive $346 million in emergency funding from the International Monetary Fund to support housing and infrastructure. Meanwhile, 14 U.S. lawmakers sent a letter to President Trump requesting the removal of economic sanctions, arguing that the current restrictions hamper urgent relief efforts. While many families continue to search for missing relatives among the rubble, some residents have begun personal fundraising efforts. For example, Alexander Gamero-Garrido launched an online campaign to help his parents relocate after their condominium building collapsed. The campaign aims to provide food and medicine while donating 20% of the proceeds to Doctors Without Borders.
