Daniel Antonio Perez Faces Capital Murder Charges After Unprovoked Shooting Kills Two Neighboring Brothers
Daniel Antonio Perez, a 40-year-old man, faces two counts of capital murder and several counts of aggravated assault after an unprovoked shooting killed two neighboring brothers in West Bexar County. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday when Perez crossed the street from his home and opened fire on 11-year-old Maliki Damian Perales and 20-year-old Drayven Quiroz. The brothers were in a vehicle in their driveway when they were struck by gunfire. Maliki Damian Perales died from gunshot wounds to the head and torso, while Drayven Quiroz died at the hospital roughly 12 hours later. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar reported that Perez appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis, though he had no official prior criminal record. During the shooting, Perez also allegedly fired at two other siblings of the family who were standing near the front door, but they were not hit. After the shooting, Perez ran a quarter-mile from his home while calling 911 to report the incident. He was taken into custody and his bond was set at $2.3 million.
