Best Buy CEO Jason Bonfig Outlines Strategy to Revitalize Retailer Through Small-Format Stores and AI Integration
Jason Bonfig will succeed Corie Barry as CEO of Best Buy this fall, aiming to revitalize the electronics retailer after several years of stagnant sales. Bonfig stated that his strategy focuses on four key pillars: advancing the brand as a retail and technology company, improving reach, enhancing the customer experience, and focusing on being a human-powered company. To expand the company's reach, Bonfig is prioritizing the opening of small-format stores ranging from 12,000 to 15,000 square feet. These locations, such as the new stores in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, allow Best Buy to enter markets that cannot support a traditional large-scale store. Bonfig noted that these smaller locations enhance the user experience and drive digital engagement. The retailer has faced a 20% stock decline since 2021, impacted by a post-Covid demand lull. Bonfig plans to address these challenges by leveraging artificial intelligence and investing in new products like Meta's glasses, while maintaining a focus on human-powered service.
