The National Hurricane Center in Miami reports that the storm is expected to approach the Hawaiian Islands next week, though the exact location and magnitude of its impact remain to be determined. Currently situated far from land, the storm features maximum sustained winds of approximately 105 mph. While the hurricane is moving westward, it is already generating significant swells. These swells are expected to produce life-threatening surf and rip tides along the coast of southern California through the weekend. The increased activity in the eastern Pacific is a result of this year's El Niño cycle. Experts note that the warm water in the Pacific is fueling a high frequency of storms, with Fausto marking the sixth named storm of the season. While the hurricane is the primary focus, the National Hurricane Center also noted that Tropical Storm Bertha recently dissipated after bringing heavy surf and flooding to southern Louisiana and Texas.
