Troy Jackson has secured a commanding lead in the race to replace Graham Platner as the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Maine. Following the withdrawal of Platner due to a series of scandals, Jackson moved into a strong position after securing approximately 300 of the 319 county-level delegate slots during the first weekend of selection. The momentum caused several high-profile rivals to exit the race. Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows withdrew Sunday, followed by endorsements from Dr. Nirav Shah, Dan Kleban, and Jordan Wood. Jackson, a former state senate president and logger, is positioning himself as a steady alternative to Platner’s more vocal style while maintaining a progressive platform. Jackson’s campaign emphasizes working-class issues, including "Medicare for All" and higher taxes on billionaires. He also criticized Republican Senator Susan Collins for her support of ICE, noting that she should have been able to stop the agency after an agent shot and killed a man in Biddeford. The final nomination will be decided at a convention on July 25.
