Troy Jackson has established a significant advantage in the race to replace Graham Platner as the Democratic nominee for Maine's U.S. Senate seat. During the first day of county-level delegate selection, Jackson-aligned delegates won approximately 94% of the 319 available slots, including every position in the state's three largest counties. Jackson, a former Maine Senate President and fifth-generation logger, is positioning himself to face Republican incumbent Susan Collins in a high-stakes midterm battle. While Jackson previously campaigned alongside Platner, he emerged as the frontrunner after Platner withdrew from the race following a series of scandals and a rape allegation. Jackson's platform focuses on working-class progressives, featuring support for "Medicare-for-all," higher taxes on billionaires, and the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He also criticized Collins for her support of ICE following an incident where an agent shot and killed an illegal immigrant in Biddeford. If Jackson maintains his current momentum, he is expected to secure the nomination at the convention in Bangor on July 25.
