Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin faces conservative backlash for contradicting himself on immigration reform and amnesty.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin faced a conservative backlash after reaffirming his opposition to amnesty in a social media post that appeared to contradict his earlier remarks. During the National Governors Association Summer Meeting in Oklahoma City, Mullin argued for the necessity of immigration reform and the modernization of employment visa programs to address labor shortages. However, hours later, posted on X that there would be no amnesty for illegal immigrants, stating that those who illegally present in the United States will be detained and deported. Conservative critics, including former Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino, argued that Mullin's hardline stance on amnesty contradicted the call for reform. Bovino noted that voters have clearly demanded mass deportations. Commentator Robby Starbuck called the remarks a total betrayal. The administration announced that the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to the Fox News Digital request for comment.
