President Trump directed Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and the National Park Service to place temporary signage along public walkways. These signs will notify visitors of the report's findings and guide them toward resources for more accurate historical information. The administration also tasked officials with creating signs to better commemorate the Declaration of Independence during the nation's 250th anniversary. While museum director Anthea Hartig defended the institution's commitment to scholarship and accuracy, the administration maintains that the current leadership has allowed "ideological capture" to replace a more unifying narrative of the American experience.
