Jamieson Greer indicated on Tuesday that the administration is preparing to announce a new round of tariffs on international imports. Speaking with CNBC, Greer confirmed that while a specific timeline is not yet set, action is expected soon. This move comes as several of the previous import levies established by President Trump are scheduled to expire this Friday. The administration has already begun strengthening its trade strategy by proposing new duties of up to 12.5% on imports from 60 different economies. These proposed tariffs, governed by Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, target goods produced under forced-labor conditions. Jamieson Greer noted that while many countries lack laws to prohibit forced labor, the United States maintains strict regulations. The proposed duties would eventually cover approximately 99% of U.S. trade. Greer emphasized that the scale of these proposed tariffs illustrates the significant global problem of forced labor in manufacturing.
