Vice President JD Vance and Usha Vance welcomed their fourth child, Alec Neel Vance, while in office.
Vice President JD Vance and Usha Vance announced the birth of their fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance, on July 19. The baby was born at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The couple expressed gratitude to the military doctors and the White House medical unit for their care. This birth marks a significant historical milestone, as JD Vance is the first vice president in over 150 years to welcome a child while serving in office. The last vice president to have a child during his term was Schuyler Colfax in 1870. The Vances, who met at Yale Law School, are also parents to three older children: sons Ewan and Vivek, and daughter Mirabel. To provide the children with a sense of normalcy away from the public eye, the family plans to spend more time at a property in Middleburg, Virginia. While they maintain their official residence at the Naval Observatory, the family aims to keep much of their private life away from the scrutiny of Washington, D.C.
