Ukraine Deploys First Drone-Carrying-Robot Attack to Revolutionize Modern Maneuver Warfare
Ukraine has initiated a new era of warfare by executing the first known drone-carrying-robot attack, utilizing "marsupial" tactics where heavy-lift drones transport uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) to targets. This innovation allows robots to bypass mobility limitations and reach areas of enemy fire, reducing human risk. For example, a heavy-lift multicopter recently deployed an ARK-1 UGV equipped with an anti-tank mine behind Russian lines. While the U.S. military explored similar concepts for decades, Ukraine has successfully implemented them on a shoestring budget. The administration announced that the U.S. military has developed these technologies multiple times but often failed to move beyond demonstration. Ukraine now aims to replace 30% of frontline troops with UGVs in some sectors.
