Ambassador Olga Stefanishyna Clarifies Ukraine's Intentions Following Drone Strike on Iranian Cargo Ship
Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanishyna, clarified that the recent drone strike on an Iranian cargo ship in the Caspian Sea was not intended to initiate a global war. Stefanishyna stated that Ukraine is not playing a "game of chess" to leverage the conflict, but rather seeking to survive and stop the Russian war. Despite Iranian threats of retaliation and accusations of UN Charter violations, Ukraine's foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, dismissed these claims as "Iranian lies." Sybiha noted that Iran is a direct accomplice to Russian aggression by supplying weapons like Shahed drones. The strike demonstrates Ukraine's growing long-range capabilities and its goal of targeting networks that support the Russian war effort. By highlighting the links between Russia and Iran, Ukraine aims to persuade the administration that its struggle is part of a larger threat facing the West.
