Volodymyr Zelenskyy Leads Nine European Nations in Forming New Anti-Ballistic Missile Coalition

Ukraine and nine other European nations established a new anti-ballistic missile coalition aimed at building shared defensive capacity across Europe. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the initiative in Paris, bringing together allies including Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The coalition seeks to enhance Europe’s ability to defend against missile threats through joint technological effort and industrial cooperation, bolstering regional defense capabilities. Furthermore, Ukraine secured agreements with France for the acquisition of SAMP/T NG air defense systems and 16 French Rafale fighter jets. Separately, the nations committed to advancing Ukraine’s indigenous FREYJA interceptor system. While US President Donald Trump previously pledged licensing for Patriot interceptors, Zelenskyy stressed that this defense architecture must be diverse to ensure regional security. The agreements emphasize that European partners are taking a leading role in fortifying their own sovereignty against external threats.
