United Airlines Unveils New Economy Plus Seating on Airbus A321XLR Jets
United Airlines announced a new cabin configuration designed to offer increased comfort on its Airbus A321XLR aircraft. The upgrade, branded Economy Plus, features an open middle seat with a permanently fixed, shared table for passengers in both the window and aisle seats. This arrangement provides extra legroom and elbow room beyond the standard capacity. United Airlines plans to roll out this service beginning later this year and expects it to be the exclusive offering of its kind across the industry. Andrew Nocella, United's chief commercial officer, stated that the airline is "investing nose-to-tail across our fleet and giving customers choice and value in every cabin." This new seating option builds upon previous enhancements, including the "Relax Row" on its wider-body jets. Industry trends show other carriers are also adjusting their offerings; Delta Air Lines recently introduced cheaper fares that reduce premium perks like lounge access. United Airlines stated the A321XLR, which will operate on both domestic and international short-to-medium-haul routes, will feature all-aisle access seating in its premium suites and larger overhead bins.
