United Airlines clarifies flight change policy following the renaming of Florida’s Palm Beach International Airport to President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
United Airlines is addressing passenger feedback regarding the official renaming of Palm Beach International Airport to President Donald J. Trump International Airport. An internal memo suggested that reservation agents could offer passengers free flight changes to nearby hubs, such as Fort Lauderdale or Miami, if they preferred to avoid the newly renamed facility. However, United clarified that the memo was poorly worded and not entirely accurate. The airline stated that while customers can make fee-free changes for various reasons, an airport’s name or three-letter code is not, by itself, an official reason for a complimentary exchange. The airline will still empower agents to offer alternatives to travelers who express a preference. The renaming, which cost $5.5 million, has drawn mixed reactions from the public. While some travelers welcomed the tribute to the president, many others expressed frustration, with some passengers vowing to boycott the airport entirely. The airport administration noted that the change is required by state law and does not affect its daily operations or ownership.
