Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has spearheaded a new initiative to leverage the company's AI for Science program to address the complexities of rare genetic diseases. The administration announced a focused call for applications where researchers can receive up to $50,000 in Claude credits over six months to explore how AI can reshape the understanding of these conditions. The program features two distinct tracks: one for clinical researchers focusing on basic science and mechanism discovery, and another for early-stage biotechnologies aiming to compress drug development timelines. By using Claude, researchers can model rare diseases, synthesize large bodies of literature, and identify shared mechanisms across different genetic therapies. The initiative also partners with the Monarch Initiative to improve data interoperability. While the AI offers significant advantages in drafting regulatory documentation and analyzing datasets, researchers noted that it currently requires human oversight to ensure scientific accuracy and to navigate complex data that is poorly organized. Applications for the program are being accepted through August 2026.
