President Trump Urges Oil Giants to Lower Retail Fuel Prices Amidst Record Profits
President Trump criticized major oil companies for generating record profits while consumers face high gasoline prices caused by the Iran war. During a press conference in the Oval Office, President Trump stated that energy giants like ExxonMobil and Chevron are making "too much money" and urged them to slash retail prices to benefit the public. While the Iran war has caused a historic oil shortage and sent petroleum prices soaring, the administration announced that the conflict has also provided a boon for oil exporters. For example, Chevron reported profits of $12.1 billion, a nearly 400% increase from the previous year, while ExxonMobil reported $14.5 billion in profits. President Trump noted that while crude oil accounts for 51% of the cost of a gallon of gas, the administration is seeking a political win by demanding that companies give back to the public. He predicted that oil prices will "drop through the floor" once the Iran conflict is resolved.
