Two people were killed and seven others were injured during an early morning shooting on Biltmore Avenue in Asheville.

The Asheville Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday on the 250 block of Biltmore Avenue. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, while seven others were transported to Mission Hospital for treatment. Interim chief Jackie Stepp noted that the victims were likely hanging out near their cars after local establishments closed for the night. Investigators believe the shooting was not a random act of violence, as evidence suggests it may be linked to a prior gun violence incident. The city of Asheville has expressed its mourning for the victims and urged the public to remain patient as the investigation continues. Mayor Esther Manheimer and City Manager DK Wesley issued a joint statement calling for the community to remain proactive in seeking solutions to minimize local violence. Residents with information are encouraged to contact the Asheville Police Department at (828) 252-1110 or submit anonymous tips via the TIP2APD app.
