Book Soup is currently closed indefinitely after a 102-year-old water main ruptured on Thursday morning, sending water surging through the West Hollywood streets. The flood devastated the celebrity-favorite bookstore, which is located near the iconic Sunset Boulevard. While the store is currently inaccessible to the general public, management expressed hope to reopen within a few days once the City of West Hollywood and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power provide clearance. The rupture caused widespread damage to the neighborhood, creating a large sinkhole and flooding nearby parking garages and a Metro bus yard. Engineering experts noted that the break highlights the need for more funding to address Los Angeles' aging infrastructure. While crews have replaced a 25-foot section of the broken pipe, officials have not yet set a final completion date for the repairs. The flood also impacted nearby Dialog Cafe, which sustained significant damage. Residents and drivers are advised to avoid the Sunset Strip area while crews pump out standing water and repair the damaged roadways.
