Kim Kohn reports on business impacts and safety measures as the Akawa Butte Fire continues to burn north of Sisters.

Kim Kohn, chief marketing officer for Black Butte Ranch, stated that rapidly changing weather conditions and Red Flag warnings created significant concerns for employees and residents. While the ranch remains outside the immediate evacuation zone, Kohn noted that the community of Sisters remains under high alert due to unpredictable storm conditions. The Akawa Butte Fire has burned more than 26,000 acres with only 3% containment. Firefighters are utilizing both ground crews and aircraft to strengthen control lines against dry fuels and gusty winds. The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office has expanded evacuation orders as the fire threatens nearby communities, forcing some residents to seek shelter at Sisters High School. Local businesses are adapting to the wildfire's impact. While some visitors have canceled reservations, others have relocated to nearby areas. Jeanine Conforti of the Riverhouse Lodge reported that the lodge is providing emergency lodging rates and accommodating relocated events, such as a wedding moved from Sisters to Bend.
