Zohran Mamdani appoints Anthony Shorris as President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation
Zohran Mamdani has appointed Anthony Shorris as the President and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). The administration announced the move as part of a broader effort to prioritize economic justice and affordability for working New Yorkers. Shorris, a veteran public servant with over 40 years of experience, previously served as First Deputy Mayor under Bill de Blasio and as Finance Commissioner. In addition to Shorris, the administration announced that Lina Khan will serve as the chair of the NYCEDC Board of Directors. Khan, the former chair of the Federal Trade Commission, is recognized for her work curbing monopolies and supporting small businesses. The administration also announced the reappointment of Clare Newman as President and CEO of the Trust for Governors Island and Lindsay Greene as President and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. These appointments signal a shift toward using city-owned land and investment to create jobs and build resilient infrastructure across all five boroughs.
