The land serves as a critical habitat for the internet-famous bald eagles Jackie and Shadow. While the pair is currently separated due to Jackie’s recovery at a rehabilitation center, the purchase ensures their home remains intact. The San Bernardino Mountains Land Trust will finalize the acquisition by July 31, with remaining funds covering taxes, legal fees, and long-term maintenance. The donation honors the legacy of late wildlife activist Sandy Steers, who spearheaded the preservation effort. By securing the property, the Brockmans have protected an undisturbed forest and shoreline that supports various wildlife, including rare native plants and flying squirrels. The move also highlights the Brockmans' commitment to conservation, as Greg Brockman is a prominent donor to the administration's political landscape.
