Nelson Vaz Warns of Flash Flooding and Heavy Rainfall Across Long Island and the Northeast
Service meteorologist Nelson Vaz reported that heavy rainfall and flash flooding are impacting the East Coast, with significant portions of Long Island and the Northeast under various flood warnings. The National Weather Service announced that the western third of Nassau County is currently under a flash flood warning due to rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches in the last six hours. Additional rainfall of up to 1 inch is expected to continue, potentially causing minor flooding in areas such as Huntington Station and Glen Cove. Nelson Vaz advised residents to take precautions, particularly in basement apartments, and to avoid driving through deep water. While the heaviest rain is concentrated in New York City and northeast New Jersey, the East End of Long Island will receive less precipitation. Conditions are expected to clear by Tuesday morning, with temperatures reaching the lower 80s. Unsettled weather, including showers and thunderstorms, is forecast to return by the middle of the week.
