Isobella Perrie Sullivan, a 25-year-old law student, has been granted bail after appearing in court charged with possession of explosives. The charges follow an intelligence-led operation by the Garda Special Detective Unit, which intercepted a vehicle carrying a "highly sophisticated" bomb near Carrickmacross. The device, which contained military-grade explosives, a detonator, and a power unit, was reportedly ready for use as an under-car explosive in Northern Ireland. While Isobella Perrie Sullivan was driving the car, her defense solicitor stated she was unaware of the contents of the bag in the rear seat. Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly described the seizure as "extremely significant," noting that it highlights the ongoing threat from radicalized dissident republicans who did not decommission their weapons after the Good Friday Agreement. The administration's Minister for Justice, Jim O'Callaghan, expressed relief that the device was defused before it could pose a threat to the public. Isobella Perrie Sullivan must now adhere to a curfew and provide an independent surety of €15,000 while awaiting a further bail hearing.
