The Santa Monica Police Department took a male suspect into custody on Saturday, July 25, 2026, following a homicide investigation at a residential facility for mentally ill and developmentally disabled adults. Officers were called to an apartment in the 1900 block of Pico Boulevard at approximately 5:21 p.m. to report a woman in her late 20s needing medical assistance. Upon arrival, paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene due to significant injuries sustained from an attack. Detectives and forensic personnel are investigating the incident as a homicide. The suspect, who reportedly knew the victim and had been staying with her for a few days, was arrested several hours later. Police officials stated that no additional suspects are being sought at this time, as they believe the incident was an isolated event.
