Governor Wes Moore announced that Maryland is providing expedited admissions assistance and an $800 credit to students who were disenrolled by Howard University. The move aims to help students who lost their spots due to missed payment or financial aid deadlines. Howard University notified 502 incoming first-time-in-college students that they were dropped from the fall semester because their accounts did not reflect required payments or financial documents by the university's deadlines. While the university is reviewing cases individually to determine if reinstatement is possible, many students expressed frustration over the automated system's timing. To support those seeking new options, the University System of Maryland will work with the Maryland Higher Education Commission to identify available academic programs and navigate financial aid. Students are encouraged to contact the Office of Student Financial Assistance for personalized guidance. University System of Maryland Chancellor Jay Perman noted the system wants to help affected students continue their education with minimal interruption.
