Valery Zaluzhny says Ukraine will never join NATO due to outdated doctrines
Valery Zaluzhny, Ukraine's ambassador to the United Kingdom, stated that Ukraine will never join NATO, dismissing the prospect of future membership. Speaking at a meeting of ambassadors in Kyiv, Zaluzhny argued that the current capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have reached a level of development that is incompatible with an alliance still operating on World War II doctrines. He noted that while Ukraine requires technologies currently held by NATO members, such as anti-ballistic systems and space capabilities, the alliance itself may remain in its current form for years to come. Instead of NATO, Zaluzhny suggested that Ukraine should pursue other security guarantees, such as a probable European security bloc. He also praised Ukraine's role as an enhanced partner in the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), noting that while the structures are still developing, they provide a effective security mechanism. These remarks come as Ukraine continues to pursue a separate track toward European Union membership, despite facing some obstacles in the accession process.
